[Confrontation Unit 8] Shooting Day #1 - Plan

Today I am going to be filming the first scene of my mockumentary. I plan to film them in chronological order in order to help add consistency between scenes. This is one of the simpler of the 12 scenes I have written, so I'm not expecting it to take all day to film - Which means I may have time to film the 2nd scene as well if the rest of the cast are available. I'm starting to feel the pressure as this is my first time directing more than two people, though I still feel fairly confident.

This first scene is inspired by the opening scene of the second series of the UK Office, in that it introduces the characters, as well as showcasing David Brents signature ability to make any situation into an absolute cringe-fest.

I have rented out two cameras, one which will be kept on a tripod which ill be sat on a dolly, which will allow it to be rolled around smoothly. The other camera will be used for recording audio and hand-held close-ups. I will attach a microphone onto the camera for the scenes in which it will be used purely for audio.

Something which Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant did very well in The Office is provide the cast the freedom to almost say what they wanted during lines, Gervais being especially notorious to take liberties with the script in such a way to intentionally annoy the nest of the cast by making them laugh. I doubt I'll be going that far, however I do hope I have given the cast enough leg room in order to make the dialogue sound like something they would naturally say.
