[Resolution Unit 8] Editing Progress Update 2 - Adaptions and Changes

Reflection.

After finishing my first version of the video, I asked on of the film teachers for some feedback. It was incredibly useful, and all changes have been taken into account for my new version.

These are the notes I took during out meeting.

- Find a more interesting way to present the text. Possible typing effect.
- Try changing to the event to something that is easier to relate to the footage I've shot.
- Include footage from other sources to expand the scale of the video. Cloverfield, Rec. All being in one room will get too repetitive.
Changes.

After reflection, and seeing what I can do to adapt these concerns into my video, I scrapped a large portion of the video, keeping only the opening credits sequence. Everything after that point has been changed in favour of a version that I believe to be far superior.

The first major change has been the text, which rather than just being white paragraphs appearing on a black screen, are now being typed in what looks like an MS-DOS interface. This suits the video much better, and gives a more gritty view of the world it is describing.

This text effect was done by typing what I wanted to show on screen at the end of the clip into Microsoft Word, then recording the screen as I 'backspace' / delete the text letter by letter. I then reversed this footage in Pinnacle Studio, zoomed in the footage so that it was only the white text & black background, then I inverted the colours - making the text white and the screen black. I originally planned to record myself typing, however I frequently make spelling mistakes, and it would likely take many recordings to get it perfect. The way I ended up doing it was lot easier for me, despite requiring more editing. My learning resource which I produced for an earlier unit of Art Foundation was useful in preparing me for this, as that required me to record my screen and adjust the zoom.

As well as this, all mentions of the electromagnetic pulse has been changed in favour of a viral outbreak. Many people likely will not know what an electromagnetic pulse is, while a viral outbreak is something people will be familiar with from various forms of media - both real and fictional. This leads into the footage I have added, which consists of people walking around abandoned buildings, and clips from the scene in District 9 in which a group of people in hazmat suits explore the alien spaceship. I have also added some footage from the film '[Rec]', a Spanish found footage zombie movie.

Below is the film post changes, to see the film prior to these adjustments, please refer to my previous post. (The video ends at around the 2:30 mark, the rest is just music.)
